At M.A.X. MMA, we believe in the science of fighting. We train fighting in five zones: long-range, mid-range, and short striking, clinch-work, and ground fighting.
Long-range striking
From this zone, kicks are effective, but most other techniques require that distance be closed.
Mid-range striking
From this zone, both kicks and punches are effective. Certain takedowns (such as single/double leg shots) are also available. Other takedowns and strikes require that distance be closed.
Short-range striking
From this zone, knees and elbows are effective. Punches and takedowns are also available, but for kicks to be effective, distance must be opened.
Clinch-work
Techniques available from the clinch are similar to those from the short-range striking zone. However, from the clinch, contact between the two fighters is constant. In the three previous zones, the fighters only have intermittent contact.
Ground fighting
This is fighting on the ground, using both submissions and striking.
At M.A.X. MMA, we begin by training these zones independently. You will learn how to kick and move while kicking, puch and move while punching, etc. As you become more comfortable fighting from each zone, we will examine transitions: how to move from long to short-range striking, how to take an opponent to the ground from each zone, and so on. As you begin to transition naturally, we will look at how to tailor your fight to your opponent: against what type of opponent is the clinch most effective; what distance should you maintain given your body type/fighting style and your opponent’s; how are angles different in each zone.
By examining fighting in this way, you will learn how to fight your fight against a variety of opponents. Want to become a well rounded fighter from stand up to groundfighting? then your next step is an easy one, register today and join the elite fighters of M.A.X. MMA.
